仲夏夜之夢 A midsummer night's dream

“A midsummer night’s dream” is one of the most famous plays written by William Shakespeare. It has been adapted to movies several times. However, the adaptation impressed me most is the one from animation, Glass Mask.

 

“When the path of true love runs smoothly, the world seems a wonderful place. “ Otherwise, everything turns into a misery.

 

In the story, Hermia is in love with Lysander. But she is forced to marry Demetrius.

Helena, Hermia’s best friend, is also in love with Demetrius. Hermia decides to run away with Lysander. When Helena tell Demetrius Hermia’s plan, Demetrius is very angry. And he chase them into the wood.

 

On the other hand, King of Fairies is in quarrel with his wife. He order Puck, an elf, to fetch him the flower called Love in Idleness. The juice of the flower will make people to fall in love with the first living thing he sees when he wake up.

 

When Puck put the juice into Lysander’s and Demetrius’s eyes accidentally, the love story of the couples become a mess. It turn out that both men love Helena crazily but Hermia is refused by Lysander.

 

Can all of them find their true love in the midsummer night?

《仲夏夜之夢》是莎士比亞其中一部著名的劇作，曾多次改編為電影。不過，真正令我留下深刻印象的卻是動畫「玻璃面具」。

 

「當真愛之路暢通無阻，世界是如此奇妙美好。」雙反來說，一切將變成苦難。

 

故事敘述Hermia深愛Lysander，但卻被迫與Demetrius結婚，而Hermia的好友Helena則暗暗愛上Demetrius。Hermia決定跟Lysander出走森林，當Helena告知Demetrius他們的計劃，Demetrius十分震怒，並追蹤他們前赴森林。

 

另一方面，精靈世界的國王和皇后爭執，國王命令小靈精Puck給他摘取安逸戀愛之花。花朵的汁液會令人愛上醒來後看見的第一種生物。

 

當Puck意外把花液滴入Lysander和Demetrius的眼睛，他們的愛情故事變得一團糟，兩位男士都瘋狂迷上Helena，而Hermia則被Lysander拒諸一旁。

 

他們最後能否在仲夏之夜找到真愛？
