Jane Eyre 簡‧愛

I watched "Jane Eyre" in the cinema this afternoon. Before I watched the movie, I read the book from the library. "Jane Eyre" was written by Charlotte Bronte. It is one of the famous novel in English literature. My primary school teacher once recommended it to us.

Jane Eyre was a poor orphan. Her auntie , Mrs Reed, treated her badly and send her to Lowood School. The lives in the school at that time were harsh. Many pupils died because of disease. When Jane Eyre was eighteen, she became a governess(like a private teacher) to a family at Thornfield Hall. There she fell in love with Mr Rochester, who was the father of her student Adele. When Mr Rochester proposed to her, it seemed that Jane would have a happy marriage. However, Jane soon discovered that there was a terrible secret of Mr Rochester...

I enjoy reading "Jane Eyre" especially the parts about the lives in the 18th century. Look at the picture below. See the daily lives of the people in the 18th century.

 

Our library also keeps "Jane Eyre" in the Chinese collection. You can borrow either the English(F BRO) or Chinese(873.57 1708) version of "Jane Eyre".  

By the way, the movie "Jane Eyre" is not as good as I think since both characters of Mr Rochester and St John are not as adorable as in the novel.

今天下午我去了戲院看《簡‧愛》。觀賞電影前我先借閱了圖書館的英文版《簡愛》。《簡愛》的作者是Charlotte Bronte，是英國文學著名的小說，我的小學老師也曾向我們推介。

Jane Eyre是可憐的孤兒，她的姑母Mrs Reed待她苛刻，把她送往寄宿學校。這段時期的學校環境非常惡劣，很多學生因感染疾病而病死。Jane十八歲時，到Thronfield Hall擔任家庭教師，更愛上了學生Adele的父親Mr Rochester。當Mr Rochester向她求婚，Jane好像將會締結美好姻緣。但是，不久Jane就發現了Mr Rochester隱藏的可怕秘密……

我最喜愛《簡愛》書中有關十八世紀生活的敘述。看看下面的畫作，你可以得至當時居民的日常生活狀況。

順帶一提，電影《簡‧愛》稍遜於我期望，Mr Rochester和St John兩個角色都不及小說描述般值得愛慕。
